Basement Walls

The old sheep fence area ready to move the shipping container in. We love this BEAUTIFUL place!
Hanging the Window Frames

All Ready For CONCRETE!!!!

Here comes the cement truck.

This time the kids were home from school for "Harvest Holiday" and were able to watch the show the concrete pumping truck puts on.
We had front row seats on a big pile of dirt.

Peeling off the forms the next day.

WE HAVE BASEMENT WALLS

Thursday evening when we were on our way to a Halloween play, we got a call from our excavator asking us to get some foundation coating put on one portion of our wall so he could fill in dirt to get his Bobcat Tractor down in our basement.  After the play, at 9:30 pm, we went to Home Depot and picked up one 5 gallon bucket of black sticky TAR(oil based)!  Seth and Bridget stayed up late applying it.  Two days later, on Saturday, we applied 3 more buckets of foundation coating that we had gotten from Stock Building Supply. Not as sticky and icky to work with (water based).

Kitten Anyone?

Fun With Footings

Delivery of the forms for the footings

The Forms for the FOOTINGS were built so quickly

Okay, the concrete pumping truck is the coolest thing ever!

This picture does not do justice to the excitement that I was experiencing on the inside!  Yay, to our first bit of concrete.

Seriously!  This was just amazing to me.  I know the people who work with them all the time would think I was crazy, but I really enjoyed watching it pump the concrete.

Forms are now up for the outer walls of the basement.

Ellyn has claimed the right to be the official photographer.  We can thank her for the majority of the pictures.

We Have a HOLE!!!!

Who knew a big pile of dirt and a hole in the ground could be so EXCITING???

Quinn has always been fascinated by tractors, he thoroughly enjoyed being up close to them,
we had to hold him back from trying to drive one.

Coulson found a new hiding spot!

Pig Pens anyone? Yes, that is the boys kicking up as much dust as they possibly can.  Is it weird that I don't even mind?

We have, however, decided we no longer need to build a house now that we have 2 bathrooms. Heh, heh, heh!

Much of our time this week was spent clearing even more of the old barnyard to make way for a container barn. We are leaving the old sheep shed and hay derrick because even through all the changes somethings just need to stay the same.

 HAPPY FALL!!!

A LITTLE BACKGROUND

We have loved living in our little cottage!
However, it was a bit on the small side and old side.
(almost 700 sq. feet, built in 1898)
We thought of updating and remodeling.
Nope.  This cost TOO MUCH!
Just as much as building a new home.

Plan B:
Build a new house.  Some liked this idea more than others.
Believe it or not it was the kids, who all share 1 room, mind you, that are not 100% in love with the idea of building a new house.
But, after years of research and prayers, we have begun.
Bridget drew up the house plans, after getting ideas and suggestions from Seth.  Our architect made the plans official.

Let the clearing of the land begin.
We are going the Owner/builder route, with Bridget being the main contractor.
We are all getting an education, and experiencing dirty hands and tired muscles.

The Day The Tractors Arrived! Da, Da, Daaaaa!
Yeah!  Bridget wouldn't believe it till she saw it!
I guess it is official now!
We are REALLY building a house.

Feeling Blessed!  Feeling SUPER Grateful! Feeling Humble!
